The celebrated Haag-Kastler-Trych-Pohlmeyer stability criterion gives dynamical and physically natural characterization of thermal equilibrium states and KMS condition. In this talk we will re-examine this stability criterion in the context of modern developments in non-equilibrium quantum statistical mechanics.
